Lee said, “We are very grateful to Putrajaya Corporation, especially its President, Tan Sri Samsuddin, for the very strong support and in seriously wanting to make Putrajaya the waterskiing and wakeboarding centre of excellence in the Asian region. This has helped the recent emergence of many young Malaysian skiers with tremendous potentials. It is very heartening to see parents of young skiers so involved, not just in their kids, but also in wanting to help MWSF promote this wonderful family-oriented outdoor extreme sport,” “And now, with further support from the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the Ministry of Tourism we may see future stars in the Regional and International arenas. Perhaps, we may witness again the successes of past SEA Games Gold and Silver medallists like Alex Yoong and Phillipa Yoong who are MWSF Vice President and Honourary Secretary/ Head Coach respectively,” Lee concluded. The MWSF is assisted by the International Water Ski Federation (IWSF) in their junior development programme. Representing the IWSF in Malaysia is the IWSF Development & World Cup director, Hanifah Yoong. Hanifah emphasised that, “The present crop of very young waterskiers and wakeboarders need all the tournament exposure from local competitions that they can get in order to prepare them properly for regional events either end of this year or early next year. The environment of competing under tournament conditions can sometimes make those to train well make better results if their mental strength is good. For those who are in need of better mental preparation such conditions are also good for them,” “Therefore such national tournaments are crucial in ensuring the successful completion of Malaysia’s waterski & wakeboard development plan. The IWSF will continually monitor the progress in Malaysia and is already sending another coach from Ireland who will be stationed in Malaysia from September this year till February 2010.” The programme for waterski and wakeboard events this weekend at Putrajaya are from 7.45am to 9am and from 12noon to 3pm on both days of Saturday, 13th June and Sunday 14th June. Saturday will be the preliminary rounds with all the finals run on Sunday. Canoe, rowing and long boat events are held in the hours of 9am to 12noon and from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
